American Red Cross Serving Greater Arkansas requesting peer nominations to celebrate lifesaving efforts of everyday Arkansans
To celebrate 100 years of service in the state, the American Red Cross Serving Greater Arkansas is calling for nominations of everyday heroes to be recognized at their Centennial Celebration of Heroes Luncheon on April 18, 2017.
Everyday heroes could be any friend, family member, neighbor, firefighter, member of the military, police officer or a worker in a social service or government agency who helped save the life of another human being. Nominees can be a professionally trained lifesaver or simply a good citizen. The American Red Cross needs help identifying these local heroes whose acts of service have selflessly and courageously saved a life. Anyone in the community can nominate a person for this honor.
To be considered for recognition:
- Nominees must have saved (or assisted in saving) a life by intervening in a life-threatening situation and/or by giving the victim the aid they needed (or would have needed) to survive.
- The nominee can be a professionally-trained lifesaver or a civilian.
- The nominee cannot have caused or contributed to the incident itself.
- The heroic act must have occurred within the last calendar year, 2016.
“As a volunteer-based organization, we have profound respect for the unsung heroes who have gone before us and who walk among us now,” said Lori Arnold McFarlane, regional communications director for the American Red Cross. “The Red Cross and its volunteers have been providing services in this area since 1917. What better way to celebrate a century of service than to recognize the ordinary people who perform extraordinary lifesaving acts every day?”
Honorees will be selected by a committee of community leaders. Proceeds from this annual Heroes Luncheon will benefit local Red Cross disaster relief, preparedness programs and all other regional services. All nominees must be available for a pre-event interview and photos and able to attend the event on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Marriott in Little Rock from 11:30am – 1pm.
Nominations are due March 6 and should be sent to Amanda Severs at firstname.lastname@example.org.
